Increase Your Inline Skating Speed

Fastest player gets to the puck first!

Your Goal is to go from a dead stop to full speed in the first few steps!

  1. One skate angles at about 80 degrees out from the body (action leg)'and the other skate is pointing forward (support foot).
  2. Project your weight forward as you push off
  3. As you push off, your center of mass (hips) must reach and be directly above'the support foot, directly under your chest.
  4. Fully extend the action leg to get maximum power to your push off.
  5. Balance your hips over the support foot; hips face in the desired direction.
  6. Stride with full range of motion, bending and unbending the knees, and constantly thrust your body weight forward.
  7. Be looking ahead in the desired direction; keep head and chin up!
  8. Stay low. Maintain a lower center of gravity
  9. Bring the action leg back in after each push off to regroup under the center of mass (hips); it then becomes your support leg for the next leg's push off.
  10. Remember, the fastest player gets to the puck first.
  11. Practice sprinting up and down the rink.
  12. Speed depends on stride technique, reaction time, ability to accelerate and endurance.
